Newsletter Autumn Term 1, 2011

Dear Parents/Carers,                                                                                                                                                        Sept 2011

NEWS LETTER

Welcome back, or welcome for the first time to all our new families, to the Grove.  We hope you enjoyed the long summer break.  Our plans for the first half of the autumn term are set out below:-

7th – 16th Sept       COLOURS Phonic sounds w and c

19th– 30th Sept    HARVEST/SUKKOT                                      Phonic sounds h and  f

3rd – 14th Oct        AUTUMN & WOODLAND ANIMALS        Phonic sounds n and  l

17th – 21st Oct       DIWALI AND HALLOWEEN                       Phonic sound  u

We break for half term from the 24th October until the 28th October and the last day of term before Christmas will be the 20th December.

This term it has been necessary to increase our fees for those children who are too young to claim funding to £8.50 per session.  You will shortly be sent an invoice for this half-term.  Please note that although we are happy for payments to be made weekly, we require payment even if your child is unable to attend a session during the half-term.

We have a child starting pre-school this term who has a severe egg allergy.  All snack foods served at pre-school will be checked carefully to ensure they contain no egg.  When this child attends lunch boxes will be stored in the kitchen.  Please could you help us by ensuring that packed lunches contain no egg/ egg products – thank you.  Also if you donate boxes to us for junk collage please could you ensure no egg boxes are donated at present.

Some of you may be aware that the Pre-school occupying the Village Hall have now moved.  This provides an opportunity for the Grove to consider moving and we need your help in making that decision. The Grove provides it services for the benefit of families in the community so we need to carefully consider what is important to you and how we can best provide for this in any future plans.

The major advantage of our current building is the ability to provide a secure garden area allowing the door to be opened and for children to flow freely from the playroom to the garden as they choose.  The Village Hall have indicated that they will consider the addition of  a secure fenced outdoor play area being situated on the grass in front of the hall but to play here the children would need to be escorted across the car park. We would need to adjust our routines to allow the children outside play but this would not flow freely as now.

The advantage of the Village Hall is that it is owned and well maintained by the Parish Council. The Scout Hut is built on land owned by the secondary school and leased on a yearly basis. As you will see improvements have been made to the building over the summer but the longevity of the life of the current Scout Hut is questionable. A new hut cannot be built without securing a long term lease which is currently not being offered by the school.

Storage at the Village Hall is more limited with no outside shed meaning if we moved we would have to rethink our activities and possibly downscale the amount of toys and equipment we have. We would still be offering a lunch club but there is a possibility we may only secure eight sessions per week.

Please let us know what is important to you and help us make the right decision by completing and returning the slip below as soon as possible.  Thank you in anticipation.
